Automobile Manufacturer Increases Uptime and Performance Migrating SAP HANA on AWS

About CLIENT

The customer is a leading manufacturer and supplier of rubber molded, rubber to metal bonded products for automotive and industrial applications, having an extensive range of Anti Vibration Mounts and Isolation Products that are used in a wide spectrum of industries for over 30 years.

THE STORY

The customer was already using the SAP HANA which was deployed on VMWARE in the Private DC.
They were facing a lot of issues that were mainly of a Server outage, along with limited infrastructure control and control to scale at their end, Network latency, not being able to monitor the server and the component by their end.
Customers needed to create service requests at each and every point where they required support and the support was not quick and effective. The pricing structure was a bit complicated to change server sizing and server components.

THE Inclotech EFFECT

The project was outsourced from an IT company who was in collaboration in the large enterprise segment.

The Client approached team Inclotech to migrate all servers using the lift and shift method to complete the migration process in minimum downtime and technical efforts.

Team Inclotech and SAP Team were to gather and analyze all server information and understand the server utilization and role.

The SAP database size was larger and the SAP Application and database were deployed on multiple servers.

Based on discussion with SAP Team, the Inclotech team had created a design on an AWS Architecture.

Migration and Solution
• Setup 2 private subnets for one Prod Environment and One for Dev – Test Environment and configured VPN for DC to AWS secured connection.
• Created IAM users with specific access policies so both teams get required component access of AWS Infra.
• As they was having a custom disk and Partition size on Application and Database servers,
• Team Inclotech Deployed EC2 Instances with the right disk size and setup partition and done the sizing equivalent to old servers.
• Team Inclotech shifted the data from the DC to AWS Ec2 instances.
• SAP Team was set up SAP Application and Synced new HANA Database from the DC.
• Dedicated firewall also deployed to secure entire infra.
• Team Inclotech also set up a two-way connectivity solution, so clients can connect SAP Application directly access from the Factory and office network and Remote users can access the application using the secure VPN.
• Lamda function was implemented to start and stop the Dev, QA instances
• And the Cloudwatch to monitor all instance custom metrics performance.

Benefits

• Reduced latency

• SAP Application response time is much faster.

• Overall improvement in Application and Server uptime.

• AWS Infrastructure control in hand so the customer had not relayed on anyone.

• Also, it’s helped to manage the AWS infrastructure better.

All deployment and implementation have been done with the best-practice outcomes all SAP performance meets customers’ expectations.
